An unforgettable Nine Days along the Dalmatian Coast, from Dubrovnik to Split, inland to Plitvice Lakes, on into Slovenia—Postojna Cave, beautiful Lake Bled in the Julian Alps, and Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital, and then back into Croatia to the capital city of Zagreb.

Day 1 – Saturday, Oct. 5 – Arrive in Dubrovnik

We will be met and transferred to our hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure until we gather with our Tour Director and fellow travelers for a Welcome Dinner. (D)


 

 

Day 2 – Sunday, Oct. 6 – Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, Croatia - Adriatic Sea, DalmatiaOn a morning walking tour of Old Dubrovnik we’ll visit the Rector’s Palace, and see the Bell Tower Clock, Orlando’s Column, Sponza Palace, the Dominican Monastery, and Franciscan Monastery with its Pharmacy, one of the oldest in the world. The rest of the day is free—and there is much to be seen for Game of Thrones fans … and for the rest of us! (B)

Day 3 – Monday, Oct. 7 – Dubrovnik to Split

We travel north along the spectacular Adriatic coast, past old fishing villages and new resorts, to the city of Split. Enjoy a sightseeing tour featuring the historic inner city, built around the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Then see the remnants of Split’s Roman heritage, its Renaissance and Gothic structures, Jupiter’s Temple, the Peristyle, and the Cathedral. (B, D)

Day 4 – Tuesday, Oct. 8 – To Trogir & Plitvice Lakes

We head to Trogir, the center of artistic activities. Scholars from around the world gather here to study and paint. Then we turn inland and travel to spectacular Plitvice Lakes National Park. Have your camera ready as we take a walking tour around several of the lower lakes. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery of this natural wonder of 16 terraced lakes surrounded by thickly wooded mountains and lush vegetation. (B, D)

Day 5 – Wednesday, Oct. 9 –

To Opatija, Postojina, & Bled

We return to the Adriatic coast and travel along the beautiful bay of Kvarner to its popular resort, Opatija.

After some free time, we’ll journey north to Postojna, Slovenia, home to one of the largest caves in Europe. We’ll tour this fantastic subterranean world by miniature electric train.

Afterward, we continue to Bled, beautifully set in the Julian Alps. (B, D)

Day 6 – Thursday, Oct. 10 – Bled

A sightseeing tour of Bled features the charming town, the lakeshore, and a visit to the imposing Bled Castle, perched on a cliff high above the lake. The balance of the day is at leisure. Perhaps join an optional excursion to the small island in the middle of the lake Bled, scenic drive through the Alpine countryside and visit Bohinj and its namesake lake. (B)

Day 7 – Friday, Oct. 11 – To Ljubljana and Zagreb

Ljubljana

Travel to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, and take a walking tour. See the sights of the old city center, including the picturesque open-air Central Market, Three Bridges, Baroque Town Hall, and Robba’s Fountain. Then, on to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. (B, D)

Day 8 – Saturday, Oct. 12 – Zagreb

Zagreb

This morning, we enjoy a city tour featuring the historic Upper Town, St Mark’s Church, St. Catherine’s Church, the Cathedral, Parliament, and the Government Palace. The rest of the day is free to explore the winding streets of the Old Town, relax in a café or take an optional excursion to see the countryside. (B)

Day 9 – Sunday, Oct. 13 – Zagreb Departure

After breakfast, we will be transferred to the airport for our departure flight. (B)
